Decaf coffees communicate a lot about a coffee company. Oftentimes counting for about 1% of many cafés’ coffee business, decaf offerings can be little more than a perfunctory effort. We think, though, if you’re going sell it, you’d better be able to get behind it. Even if it’s not your cup of coffee. That is to say: we’ve got your backs, decaf drinkers of the world.

Decaf can conjure up an unpleasant flavor for some people. This is often due to junky beans or flavors left behind by the decaffeination process. But we believe that a really good decaf shouldn’t taste much different than it tasted before it became decaf. The characteristics of that coffee should survive the decaffeination process.

Our Like a Virgin Decaf is a single-origin blend heralding from Sul de Minas, Brazil. Utilizing a natural indirect method for decaffeination, the Mountain Water Process, this trademarked method is very similar to the perhaps more well-known Swiss Water Process, where beans are steamed and extraction of caffeine is removed with water and a proprietary blend of coffee solids, leaving the original characteristics of the bean intact.     

Rather than astringent or chemical-y, what’s left behind after decaffeination is the pure and consequence-free coffee that was there before, minus the jolt: just a smooth and mild coffee, with characteristic notes of caramel, chocolate, and toasted nuts.
